Welcome to The Darjeeling, a hidden gem nestled in the charming town of Farnham, United Kingdom. Located at 23-25 South St, this Indian restaurant brings the vibrant flavors of traditional Indian cuisine to life. As a food reviewer for Restaurant World, I am delighted to share my impressions of The Darjeeling, a place where culinary passion meets cultural authenticity.
The Darjeeling captures the essence of Indian dining with its rich tapestry of spices and carefully curated menu. Many diners have praised the impressive variety of dishes on offer, promising something for every palate. Whether you're a fan of classic curries or adventurous enough to explore lesser-known regional specialties, The Darjeeling does not disappoint. I had the pleasure of sampling their house wines, including a well-chilled Côte de Rhône that pairs beautifully with their flavorful dishes, showcasing an impressive understanding of food and beverage harmony.
Customer reviews provide a glimpse into the dining experience at The Darjeeling. One enthusiast raved about the restaurant's ability to serve a large group with precision and speed, highlighting the efficient service during a college farewell party. This speaks volumes about the staff's capability and dedication, though some diners have noted moments of abruptness from the team. Yet, it's clear that the focus on food quality is a priority as many customers have lauded the flavors and freshness of the offerings. One delighted diner remarked it was “the best Indian meal we’ve had in a long time,” emphasizing the balanced use of spices—a nod to the careful culinary crafting at The Darjeeling.
However, not all feedback has been glowing. A noticeable point of contention among patrons relates to beverage pricing, specifically the high cost of non-alcoholic options such as lime soda. Reviewers have expressed their surprise at the price point, suggesting a possible area for improvement in overall value perception. Attention to customer feedback can refine the experience even further, enhancing overall satisfaction.
In conclusion, The Darjeeling stands out for its flavorful dishes, attentive service, and cultural authenticity. While there are areas for improvement, particularly regarding pricing strategy, the restaurant remains a strong contender for those craving delicious Indian cuisine in Farnham. The warm environment and remarkable culinary offerings make it a worthy destination for a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re planning a casual dinner or a large gathering, The Darjeeling is your ticket to a delicious journey through India’s rich culinary landscape.
Service good. Food was ok. The overall experience was completely overshadowed by getting the bill and seeing that a pint of lime and soda had cost me £6.25! Yes, you read that right!
We were a large group & they catered for us well. Service was reasonable, but I did find the staff rather abrupt. The food was very pleasant - our group ordered a variety of dishes, which all looked great. However, I was shocked that my soft drink (a pint of soda water & lime) cost more than a cider, small beer or 125ml glass of wine. In fact it was only 25p less than a large cobra beer! I have never been charged £6.25 for this drink & quite frankly was appalled that a soft drink was more expensive than alcohol! For this reason, I have given a 3 star review & sadly I won't be returning.
THE best Indian meal we’ve had in a long time, great flavours, and no excessive ghee. The house red wine was a Cote de Rhone and at perfect temperature. All reasonably priced. The service was friendly professional and slick.
Pleasantly surprised by Darjeeling in Farnham. 20 of us visited for a college’s leaving bash and the he service was spot on considering we were a large crowd. Drinks and food orders were accurate and served promptly. The only slight criticism was that I thought the portion sizes were a little small compared to other Indian restaurants I’ve been to, and I’ve been to a lot. Would recommend this restaurant in Farnham.
